My theory of change
I help people to understand what’s going on, to imagine how things can be different - and to work out how to take action.
Understand
To solve a social problem, we need to understand it.
Too often, when we’re faced with a social issue, we jump straight into problem-solving mode, without asking deeper questions about what’s really going on.
I help people to explore some of those deeper questions.
I usually do this by facilitating a series of workshops to help your team to delve more deeply into the problem you’d like to tackle. We’ll work together, tapping into your collective intelligence to really understand what’s going on.
If you’re interested in finding out how I could you gain a better understanding of the social or environmental problem that you’re aiming to tackle, please contact me to book in a free 30 minute call.
Imagine
This strand of work is all about helping people to creatively imagine how things can be better than they are right now.
Understanding the problem we want to solve isn’t enough on its own. We need to take what we’ve learnt and use it to inspire us as we imagine a more positive future path. For your business, your organisation, and for the wider world.
The work I do on this theme is inspired in large part by the work of people like Rob Hopkins - and I facilitate workshops to help people to think freely and imaginatively about the difference they can make in their organisation - inspired by Rob’s invitation to ask “What if….?
You’ll spot some of my other inspirations in this stream of work too - in particular the central question in Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics - How do meet the needs of all within the means of the planet?
If you’re grappling with a question that sounds something like “How could we make more of a difference in the world?” then I’d love to chat more.
Act
This is where my 25 years of experience as a social entrepreneur come in handy.
I love helping people to make good stuff happen.
And as a serial social entrepreneur, I’ve played a key role in setting up and running some brilliant social businesses. I’ve learnt a lot from some pretty big mistakes over the years too.
Over that time, I’ve had some great business support - and I’ve learnt what bad support looks like too.
I’ve taken all that experience to come up with ways to be as helpful as I can be to social entrepreneurs.
Much of my work is based around helping people to come up with a plan for what they want to do.
And whilst a written plan is often useful - I think the process matters much more than the document.
I take a creative, collaborative approach to planning - primarily based around the facilitation of workshops and conversations.
